Lantau Island

The giant Buddha statue

It's easy not to notice, but Hong Kong actually has some beautiful and tranquil islands just a short boat ride from downtown. Lantau is the largest of them.

a public space in one of the 'new towns' The end of the route - another of Hong Kong's 'new towns'. I'm not sure whether these would make good places to live or not. On the one hand each family gets a tiny allocation of space in a horribly imposing tower block, but on the other the public spaces and amenities are very well planned, and my overall impression walking through this place was of the sound of children playing
