Lantau Island
It's easy not to notice, but Hong Kong actually has some beautiful and tranquil islands just a short boat ride from downtown. Lantau is the largest of them.

From the giant Buddha we walked up to Lantau Peak (which was smothered in cloud) and down to the north coast of the island. These landscapes are all from that route

The end of the route - another of Hong Kong's 'new towns'. I'm not sure whether these would make good places to live or not. On the one hand each family gets a tiny allocation of space in a horribly imposing tower block, but on the other the public spaces and amenities are very well planned, and my overall impression walking through this place was of the sound of children playing
